Matched

I am not a happy camper.  I am upset with this book because I thought it was going to be better.  I have to be honest.  I was bored!  I think it may be because I read Delirium first (see last review) and the books storylines are so similar, but this one just wasnt exciting enough!!!  I would give it a 3 out of 5. You can make your own opinion, but I will not be reading the second book.

Here's the synopsis:

REVIEWS

"Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow." -goodreads

About Teen Tech Week

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' nonprint resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology. Teen Tech Week began in 2007 and has a general theme of Get Connected @ your library.

Teens’ use of nonprint resources has increased dramatically in recent years, yet more teens are doing this from home instead of the library. According to a recent study by Harris Interactive, in 2005, 86% of youth aged 8-18 have a computer in their home, and 74% have Internet access in their home. On average, 8-18 year olds spend 6 hours and 21 minutes per day using media (including TV, video/DVDs/movies, video games, audio media, computers and print media). Furthermore, according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, 71% of teens report that the Internet is their primary source for completing school projects. Yet multiple studies have shown that the majority of teens lack the critical thinking skills and technical expertise to use the Internet and other electronic resources effectively. Teens need to know that the library is a trusted resource for accessing information and that librarians are the experts who can help them develop the skills they need to use electronic resources effectively and efficiently.

Teens, in order to gain the skills necessary to compete in today's job market, need access to digital and online information and trained professionals who can help them use these resources effectively, efficiently and ethically. Librarians and educators know this and work with teens on a regular basis to ensure they develop these skills. Teen Tech Week is a chance for libraries to throw open their physical & virtual doors and show their communities all the great things they're doing for teens with technology.

Delirium

This book was amazing!  I mean, I had high hopes for it like I did for XVI, but this one delivered.  I really really enjoyed it!  A dystopian world that you could actually picture is the first thing that went right in this book....unfortunately, it's not to far off from what we have now. I mean e dont have volunteer "regulators" running around the street beating people and performing sporadic raids on people's homes, but the media does determine what we think about things.  And we don't have the government telling us that Love is a disease and we all need to get "fixed", but the way that Lauren Oliver describes the "symptoms" of love is extremely accurate!  To learn more about this book, check out the review link below and the synopsis!  We have this book at the library so be sure to come in and check it out!

"Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love."-goodreads

XVI

So I was super excited about this book!!!!  And then I read it...it was okay.  I think I may have hyped it up in my head too much.  I mean it started out good and I felt like it was really gonna get somewhere...and then it kept going and going and going....and eventually I'm over half way through and it still hasn't picked up!!!  I mean, the author does a good job of filling you in on information, but it just takes so long and then there is no like climactic point to drive it home!!!  I got to the end and felt very dissatisfied.  Now I do have to say that if there is a second book, I would read it because it is totally set up for one.  But if there are no more books to follow up XVI, then I have to say as a stand alone book, it just didn't do it for me.  If you like dystopian fiction and feel like you have the time to give to a possible new series...I say pick it up and take a look!

It seems to me that this book is very flippy floppy....meaning people either really liked it or didn't.  Be the judge for  yourself.

Here's the synopsis and reviews, check it out!!!

REVIEWS

"Nina Oberon's life is pretty normal: she hangs out with her best friend, Sandy, and their crew, goes to school, plays with her little sister, Dee. But Nina is 15. And like all girls she'll receive a Governing Council-ordered tattoo on her 16th birthday. XVI. Those three letters will be branded on her wrist, announcing to all the world—even the most predatory of men—that she is ready for sex. Considered easy prey by some, portrayed by the Media as sluts who ask for attacks, becoming a "sex-teen" is Nina's worst fear. That is, until right before her birthday, when Nina's mom is brutally attacked. With her dying breaths, she reveals to Nina a shocking truth about her past—one that destroys everything Nina thought she knew. Now, alone but for her sister, Nina must try to discover who she really is, all the while staying one step ahead of her mother's killer." -goodreads.

Book Giveaway!!!

From our friends over at Bookworming101!!!

Welcome to our first giveaway!

Our sponsor is my country’s “impeccable” post office service that made me think my book order was lost in the mail and thus leading me to download the same books in my kindle and have no need for them once they arrived.

The book I chose for this giveaway is Matched by Ally Condie. My review on it was rather harsh, but I look forward to the rest, the book was quite a hit so you could be one of those who loved it and even if you don’t, you can’t deny it looks good on a shelf (superficiality FTW).

The book is the UK paperback version as bought from amazon.

Those of you who fume over the whole “Open ONLY to US/Canada” thing, you have no need to fret, because we’ll always be open internationally! All you have to do is fill out the form and you have a chance to be the winner that shall be determined by this evil randomizer. (You don’t have to be a follower/tweet/post/etc anywhere to enter, but doing so will earn you extra entries.)

Thanks bookworming101 for this awesome opportunity!!!  Click here to go to the giveaways page!!!
